We were not prepared to move. When I say we left, what I really mean is that we abandoned our TN lives.
Scott was out of the hospital, and in no shape to work. He was stabilized, but not well. The thing about involuntary hospital stays is that they’re only designed to manage acute crises, or mental health emergencies, when the person is in imminent danger of hurting themselves or someone else. Scott came out of the acute crisis, but he was far from well.
Taking stock of our situation, I felt we had little choice but to just leave. My mother knew our predicament, and she said words that only a mother could speak and bring immediate comfort.
“Come home.”
